San Francisco — Mercor announced the launch of Mercor Academy, a free, self-paced certification platform designed to train domain specialists in directing and evaluating AI agents.
Its opening Introduction to Agents programme is designed for learners without a technical background. Mercor’s launch materials describe five modular tracks spanning workspace context, how to diagnose an agent’s trajectory, and how to refine outcomes through iterative feedback. The pathway combines lessons and activities with a practical capstone that attaches a verified credential to an expert’s Mercor profile.
The company says Academy is optional and separate from its paid marketplace. Experts do not need to complete a course to find, apply for or be selected for projects; completing one does not guarantee a match, assignment or paid work.
“We believe the people who learn to direct AI will have the most leverage in their professional lives.”

A training layer for agent work
Mercor says its internal researchers, operators and learning designers built the curriculum around practical AI fluency. For human-data practitioners, the relevant skills are less about basic task execution than providing useful context, spotting where an agent went wrong and giving feedback that can improve a trajectory.
That makes the launch a meaningful development in talent-supply infrastructure: as post-training work moves toward complex evaluation and agent direction, platforms have an incentive to build more structured ways for experts to develop those capabilities rather than relying only on existing skills at the point of matching.
Credentials with clear limits
The immediate benefit is professional visibility, not a contractual pathway to work. Completed Academy certifications appear alongside other credentials on a Mercor profile and can be seen by sourcing teams. Mercor says they are comparable to résumé certifications, not prerequisites for project access.
The supplied materials do not show that Academy completion improves selection rates or earnings. The signal to watch is whether introductory training can mature into demonstrable, deeper capability for experienced specialists—and whether more platforms make workforce education a standard part of supplying high-grade AI evaluation to frontier labs.
Mercor Academy is a free, optional training and certification layer for AI-agent work. It gives experts a structured route to learn and display skills, while leaving paid opportunities and project selection explicitly separate.
